Love the combination Jazzmaster body & Telecaster bridge/neck/controls.

Now I will tell you the pros and cons regarding to what I think right now… I have already bought som stuff to make some improvements but more will follow. Not that I don’t like the guitar… I do! I really like how it sounds, how it feels and the looks.īut I bought this to see how I could improve it.

The Glendale has been mentioned here but its niche thingĪ week ago I bought me an Offset Tele in Shell Pink that I planned to mod right from the start. I found my local CNC shop could do me a custom one for $150 but thats a lot of Acquavit tokens for a cosmetic upgrade.

The Callaha m stuff is great but he's stopped making the no pickup plate so its only Glendale who currently do them, $125 for the plate $80 h Mind you, its only to fill the rout for the bridge pickup so I'm just leaving the no name one in there disconnected. The late, great Luther Perkins used this set up on his one bridge pickup Esquire with some pretty impressive results. The Esquire original switch setup is used by a lot of jazz folk, you get: pickup no vol/tone ( aka the "blaster switch), pickup with normal vol/tone and pickup with vol but treble heavily rolled off to simulate a bass- great for comping behind soloists/singers. Yeah just the neck pickup only, no bridge for my jazz guitars: the Lollar Charlie Christian and Bare Knuckle Manhattan (P90 in an HB case) are favoured by many jazzers and are lovely pickups that don't compress and have great note definition and clarity- check out Tim Lerch's youtubes and you'll hear what I mean. One interesting thing is, mine originally had a lovely 22 fret neck with medium jumbos unlike the 21 fret, skinny fret CVs.

a Tele, you'll find the mods easy, I did my neck and electrics upgrade in an few hours. Yours looks intriguing in pink but chacun à son goût as they say in Calcutta, this is a seriously overlooked guitar and I see me hunting down a few more. I have a Squier Jazzmaster ( in the rack if you look closely) bit its a meh experience, " plinky" and uninviting but it too may get a Faction hardtail and brass saddles to see if I can feel any Jazzmaster love. I so taken with it I'm looking at a custom build walnut thinline body based on this hard tail set up. Sound wise its as great as any Tele for Jazz (Ted Greene? Tim Lerch?) and through my ancient Polytone has that the perfect sound for comping, soloing and solo playing.

I have full size jazz boxes but really find them uncomfortable these days and for sitting down, this is a honey, Leo nailed the body contours. It will get a six saddle Gotoh bridge eventually in lieu of the ludicrous Wilson ( Wikinson-/Gotoh typo) rotating saddles and perhaps a Callahan no pickup bridge plate when he starts shipping for for less than $80 to the UK The neck is from a stock of CV necks I have and keep adding to. I play a mixture of hard bop and solo chord melody standard using 11 Chromes.

The back PU is disconnected ballast and it runs a single Bare Knuckle Flat 50 neck with an original Esquire three cap set up. It's waiting for a Lollar Charlie Christian and a custom pickguard but has had all the electrics upgraded to CTS et al.
